Hot Searches – June 2013

The month of June 2013 saw a rise in searches particularly in entertainment with music and movie downloads, popular TV shows and electronics entertainment expo, E3 2013. June also saw the birth of Kim Kardashian’s baby, North West, and the Socceroo’s qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Kim Kardashian's Baby Girl

Kim Kardashian gave birth to her baby girl in mid June with the baby’s name, North West, creating a lot of interest in the news and on Twitter. Kim and partner, Kanye West, were at the top of Australian searches as well as Kim’s sisters Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian.

Socceroo's

The Australia Socceroo’s qualified for the World Cup after their match vs. Iraq in June. Searches throughout June also followed the Soccerros in matches vs. Japan and vs. Jordan as well as searching to watch the Socceroo games live online. Go Socceroos!

PS4 at E3 2013

The E3 2013 electronic entertainment expo was held in June with Sony showcasing the new PlayStation 4 and Microsoft the Xbox One. Searches spiked shortly after on the new Xbox vs. Ps4 as well as the previous Ps3, Ps4 games and expected release date, which looks to be later in the year.

TV Shows – House Rules & The Block Sky High

June has seen home improvement shows House Rules on channel 7 and The Block Sky High on channel 9 increase in popularity for searches online. Searches included the House Rules competition, contestant Nick and House Rules reveal. The Block 2013, this year in Melbourne, had searches on watching episodes online, contestants Bec and George and The Block Shop where Australians can purchase products and similar items featured in the show.

Triple J's Hottest 100

In June, Triple J celebrated 20 years of music in the annual hottest 100 poll with many Australians tuning in to listen to the results of voted for favourites. Searches on Triple J radio frequency to tune in, stream and listen live spiked as the playlist counted down to the most popular track of the last 20 years. The number 1 in Triple J’s 100 was Oasis with its single Wonderwall.

Games of Thrones

June saw Games of Thrones torrent hit a record of the most downloaded TV show on the Internet with searches for Pirate Bay torrent downloading site as well as to watch online at Project Free TV. Actress Emilie Clarke who plays Daenerys was also popular with fans searching on imdb. Fans also went online to search for the latest episode of Games of Thrones “The Rains of Castermere” and The Red Wedding.
